چکیده

We introduce the time-parallel compound wavelet matrix method (tpCWM) for modeling the temporal evolution of multiscale and multiphysics systems. The method couples time parallel (TP) and CWM methods operating at different spatial and temporal scales. We demonstrate the efficiency of our approach on two examples: a chemical reaction kinetic system and a non-linear predator–prey system. Our results indicate that the tpCWM technique is capable of accelerating time-to-solution by 2–3-orders of magnitude and is amenable to efficient parallel implementation. 2009 Elsevier Inc. Some Organising Principles for Coupling in Multiphysics and Multiscale Models

Computational science faces new challenges posed by multiphysics and multiscale, or more generally put, coupled models. These systems are composites formed from separate subsystem models that interact via data exchanges. These data dependencies pose a coupling problem, and on distributed-memory computers, a parallel coupling problem. This paper presents a definition of terms and a set of organi...

Optimistic Simulations of Physical Systems Using Reverse Computation

Efficient computer simulation of complex physical phenomena has long been challenging due to their multiphysics and multiscale nature. In contrast to traditional time-stepped execution methods, the authors describe an approach using optimistic parallel discrete event simulation (PDES) and reverse computation techniques to execute plasma physics codes. They show that reverse computationbased opt...

Multilingual Interfaces for Parallel Coupling in Multiphysics and Multiscale Systems

Multiphysics and multiscale simulation systems are emerging as a new grand challenge in computational science, largely because of increased computing power provided by the distributed-memory parallel programming model on commodity clusters. These systems often present a parallel coupling problem in their intercomponent data exchanges. Another potential problem in these coupled systems is langua...

Component-Based Framework for Subsurface Simulations

Simulations in the subsurface environment represent a broad range of phenomena covering an equally broad range of scales. Developing modelling capabilities that can integrate models representing different phenomena acting at different scales present formidable challenges both from the algorithmic and computer science perspective. This paper will describe the development of an integrated framewo...

Spatiotemporal Compound Wavelet Matrix Framework for Multiscale/Multiphysics Reactor Simulation: Case Study of a Heterogeneous Reaction/Diffusion System

We present a mathematical method for efficiently compounding information from different models of species diffusion from a chemically reactive boundary. The proposed method is intended to serve as a key component of a multiscale/multiphysics framework for heterogeneous chemically reacting processes. An essential feature of the method is the merging of wavelet representations of the different mo...
